Ways to Volunteer

Every day, our volunteers make it possible for girls to become big thinkers, groundbreakers, and role models who make the world a better place. As a volunteer with Girl Scouts, you will become the role model she will always remember.

Whether you can give a few hours, a few weeks, or a few months, volunteering with Girl Scouts is flexible and fun.

After-School Programs

Outreach Intern
First-hand experience with at-risk and underprivileged girls between the ages of 5 and 12 while facilitating program at outreach sites.  Provides guidance to volunteers and community partners in the delivery of the Girl Scout program.  Contributes to and implements plans to recruit girls from under-served and low-income areas. Ensures accurate documentation of attendance by participants and helps with registration process. Works with cross-functional teams to develop innovative techniques to ensure on going effective delivery of the recruitment and placement strategies. Performs other duties as assigned. 10-25 hours per week – Waterloo, Dubuque, Rock Island, Cedar Rapids – flexible schedule.

Program Facilitator
Fall outreach programming will begin in October.  Each program is between 45 miutes and an hour and a half. There are some lunch/study hall programs during the day that would be between 10am and 1pm. Volunteers will help facilitate outreach programs for girls in K-3 and 4-8 grades.

Outdoor Program

Camp/Outdoor Program Intern
Assist with the development and implementation of outdoor programs for Girls at summer camp.  Supervise campers during one week of summer camp sessions. Summer Intern - June through the first week of August, includes some weekends.  Intern positions available at Camp Liberty near Dixon, IA.

Outdoor Program Intern will assist with the development our outdoor recreational opportunities for girl; research and plan adventure trips throughout eastern Iowa and assist with the planning and implementation of an Outdoor Expo for Girl Scouts. Flexible hours with some weekends.  Intern positions are available in Waterloo, Cedar Rapids, Dubuque, and Bettendorf

G.I.R.L.s of the Wild
G.I.R.L.s of the Wild at Camp Liberty is seeking volunteers who would help lead and facilitate sessions on how to plan a camping event, teaching girls about different types of camping gear, helping them prepare and make a meal, helping teach new camping skills (Leave no Trace, Fire building, Knot tying, etc.)  to help girls earn their camper badge for their age level.

RoboU
Volunteers are needed to support girls while they learn about robotics, practice their engineering skills, and actually build and program robots! Girls will work in their program levels to complete all three Robotics badges for their program level.

GLAMP Volunteers
GLAMP is a fun-filled weekend for ladies to relive their girlhood days and enjoy a magical GLAMP experience filled with adventure and pampering!  This two day event takes place on more than 200 beautiful acres at  Camp Liberty in New Liberty, Iowa – just 20 minutes outside the Quad Cities and less than an hour from Iowa City.

Volunteers are needed to assist with culinary support, spa assistants, Pinterest activities and outdoor adventures. Guaranteed to be one  of the funniest volunteer experiences you will ever have. Join us on September 29th & 30th for multiple, flexible shifts.

Engineer for a Day Volunteers
Volunteers are needed to support girls while they to invent, design, create, build, and program as they work on the Think Like an Engineer journey during this giant journey in a day event.  At the end of the event, girls will get a fun patch.  There are multiple volunteer opportunities available throughout the day for all skillsets.

Journey the World Volunteers
Join us on April 28, 2019 for Journey the World. Located again this year at Camp Liberty girls will get the opportunity to explore county booths hosted by other girls and program partners, test out their STEM skills in our STEM hub, challenge themselves in our outdoor program area, and enjoy all of our performances throughout the day. Volunteers are needed for First Aid, unloading/loading cars with troops and partners, and providing general assistance to attendees.

We need a lot of help covering our 3+ mile mud run on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Camp Liberty.  We have volunteer opportunities to fit your skills - registration, hydration stations, packet pick-up, and course helpers.  Set-up opportunities also available on Friday, May 31st.

Troop Leader                              
Mentor a group of girls and lead them through the Girl Scout program. Troop leaders will work with parents of girls in the troop to pull everyone together and create fun monthly and bi-monthly meetings.

Help with troop activities that fit their interest, availability, and skills. Troop volunteers can assist with driving, activity planning, snacks, money management, or other tasks necessary to have a successful year in Girl Scouts.

Makes sure the troop is organization during the Fall Sale and Cookie Sale Programs. Troop product managers will organize plans for selling products, manage inventory and money, and help girls develop financial literacy skills through these programs.

Development Interns gain first-hand experience with a variety of fund raising tasks. Opportunities to assist with grant writing, securing gift in kind requests, gift acknowledgements, donor tracking, reports and generating social media content to promote fund raising events. 10-20 hours per week / flexible schedules.  Intern position is available in Bettendorf.

Gain hands experience in a variety of marketing duties.
