The ‘My Promise, My Faith’ pin is an elective achievement that
involves K-12 Girl Scouts relating any faith they have to a line of
text that’s from the Girl Scout Law. Since the beginning of the
organization, every Girl Scout has been made familiar with the Girl
Scout Law. The Law exemplifies the traits and values every Girl Scout
is encouraged to live out daily in their actions.
The Girl Scout Law:
I will do my best to be
Honest and fair,
Friendly and helpful,
Considerate and caring,
Courageous and strong, and
Responsible for what I say and do,
Respect myself and others,
Use resources wisely,
Make the world a better place, and
Be a sister to every Girl Scout.
- After they find a line that fits with their faith, the Girl
Scouts must reach out to a woman in their community that lives by
that faith. The Girl Scouts are encouraged to interview this woman
and talk with her about why she believes the line the girls chose
from the Girl Scout Law is connected with that faith.
- Next, the Girl Scouts are asked to find three quotes from other women that fits with the line from the Law. These quotes can be from any source by women like poems, movies, books, TV, advertisements, magazines, and so much more.
- The final step includes the Girl Scouts making a poster, painting, story, drawing, or other creation that expresses themselves about what they learned to achieve the ‘My Promise, My Faith’ pin. The artistic expression is meant to cement what the Girl Scouts have experienced and how they have been made more aware of the faith they live with every day.
Girl Scouts has always encouraged girls to go on journeys, learn new things, and discover what makes each and every one of us special. The My Promise, My Faith pin is a great example of just one of the many ways girls can make their time in Girl Scouts a unique experience that fits with their interests, beliefs, and goals.
