“Making Music Meaningful”

Amanda Walljasper, Gold Award Girl Scout

Amanda Walljasper, of Davenport, Iowa recently earned her Gold Award, the highest award a Girl Scout can achieve. Her project, titled, “Making Music Meaningful” worked to connect high school students and retirement home residents through music. Amanda has always had a love for music and recognizes the countless benefits of music in the lives of people of all ages. For her Gold Award project, Amanda and a group of students from her high school band came together to play music for groups of residents at local retirement homes in Davenport. During the performance, residents hummed, clapped, tapped their feet, or even sang along. They loved the music, as well as the opportunity to connect, reminisce, and share with young people. Amanda was inspired to complete this project by her desire to bring together different generations of people through the power of music. Her Gold Award project has made a positive impact on the lives the residents and students involved. Dates are already marked on the calendar for future performances, giving even more students the opportunity make connections and an impact within their community. Congratulations, Amanda!
