Celebrating Our Seniors

Graduation Feature 530x220

Throughout the COVID-19 Pandemic, I continue to think of our high school seniors. This was not the graduation year you imagined, nor what anyone wanted for you. Special moments like awards ceremonies, prom, and walking across the stage to accept your diploma are all on hold or canceled. Even our own Leading the Way and Honoring Excellence celebrations did not take place. The full recognition you deserve for your hard work and growth will not take place in traditional ways. However, I, as well as our entire Girl Scout movement, will be celebrating you!

To be an official member of Girl Scouts through high school is an accomplishment. Not only are you in good company with an elite group of young women who are confident and courageous, but we know that throughout your years in our program, you experienced unique moments that shaped the person you are today— the person who will lead you successfully on the path you choose.

I hope that you look back fondly on the friendships you've made and the skills you have learned. Your vests are full of badges, patches, and journeys, that signify an array of experiences that show not only your competence but, more importantly, a mindset that you can pivot and manage any situation that comes your way. And for those of you who have earned the Gold Award, I am so impressed by the efforts you have made to achieve the mission of Girl Scouts: to make the world a better place.

Throughout your journey in life, please always remember that you have the courage to lead a life with grit and determination; you are confident and have the skill set to take the lead; and you have character- an asset that is more important than ever. Even when times are uncertain and feel overwhelming, I find hope in knowing that you are our future.
