Celebrate National Family Meals Month with your Hy-Vee Dietitians! Katie and Nina will be offering a Family Friendly Meals Cooking Class. They will walk you through a breakfast recipe, lunch recipe, and dinner recipe to show how delicious and easy it is to make and enjoy our meals together.

Supplies needed:
For the breakfast banana splits:
o 1 banana
o ½ cup Greek yogurt (any flavor)
o 3 Tbsp. granola
o ¼ cup berries
o 1 Tbsp. dark chocolate chips

For the California Dreamin’ Pita Pockets
o 3 Tbsp plain Greek yogurt
o 1 tsp ranch seasoning mix
o 2 pita pockets
o 1 slice Colby jack Cheese
o 4 butter lettuce leaves
o ¼ cup chopped avocado
o 1 small tomato, seeded and chopped
o 1 small cucumber, sliced
o Turkey slices, optional

For the Turkey Tomato Pasta
o 4 ½ Tbsp olive oil
o 1 medium onion, finely chopped
o 1 medium green bell pepper, finely chopped
o 1 small carrot, grated
o 1 clove garlic, minced
o 4 ½ cups (about 42oz) crushed tomatoes in puree
o 2 tsp dried basil
o 1 tsp dried oregano
o ¼ tsp salt
o Freshly ground black pepper to taste
o ½ pound ground turkey (or lean ground beef or ground chicken!)
o ¾ pound whole wheat pasta or Barilla Protein Plus Pasta
o Grated parmesan cheese, for garnish
o 4-5 quarts of water

You will need the following supplies for class:
o A butter knife
o Cutting board
o Spoon
o Mixing spoon
o Measuring cups
o Measuring spoons
o Saucepan with lid
o Chef’s knife
o Pasta pot
o Strainer
o Heat safe spoon/ladle
o Stovetop
o Small bowl
