The National Council of Girl Scouts USA has called for a Special Session on October 19, 2024, to vote on an increase in Girl Scout and Girl Scout adult membership fees.
For Girl Scout memberships, the National Board of Girl Scouts USA recommends an $85 membership fee that would be phased in over three years: $68 (2026), $77 (2027), and $85 (2028). A portion of this Girl Scout fee increase would be shared with councils so that Girl Scout members could assist with financial aid.
For Girl Scout adult memberships, the National Board of Girl Scouts USA recommends a $45 membership fee, with no portion going to councils.
Dues have held steady for eight years, and Girl Scouts USA has not shared the increased costs of technology, which in turn means the GSUSA expense budget is larger because of national technology costs for all members and all councils. GSUSA shared that with an increase in membership dues, they will make programs easier to deliver for volunteers, make technology easier to use with more integration between platforms, ensure processes are easier, clarify and amplify the value of Girl Scouts, eliminate barriers, and create new experiences for Girl Scouts.
We understand the proposed membership increase is significant, and our delegates would like to hear your opinions. Please read the rationale for the proposal from Girl Scouts USA, review the FAQ, and share your feedback with the Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois delegates representing our council at the Special Session. Please share your feedback by October 14, 2024.
