Volunteer Service Unit Teams

Connect with other volunteers to make the world a better place!

Service Units are communities of volunteers in a region who come together to lend support, share resources, and plan events for local Girl Scouts. Our council covers 38 counties in eastern Iowa and western Illinois and relies on dedicated volunteers to make a local impact. From hosting a "cookie cupboard" to pick up Girl Scout Cookie orders to hosting a day camp each summer, Service Units make our Movement strong.

Service Unit Teams can contribute in a variety of ways:

Volunteering in a variety roles
Keeping positive, relevant, and consistent communication
Hosting events for girls to make friends and learn new skills
Coordinating Fall Product and Cookie Programs
Ensuring Girl Scouts has a visible community presence

Service Unit Team Roles

The Service Unit Team leadership model is designed to better distribute the responsibilities of the Service Unit while being flexible enough to fit the needs of the team. Service Unit Operations Director

Volunteers who fulfill this role provide leadership for the service unit and troops, including communication and finance oversight.

Distribute the Service Unit Update monthly
Share information about upcoming meetings and activities
Ensure all members have access to communication resources
Support volunteers with troop finance questions

Service Unit Program Director

Volunteers in this role plan and host events and work with community partners to cultivate a positive experience for Girl Scouts. Provide support and guidance on events and the Girl Scout Program to leaders and volunteers.

These volunteers provide support on engaging new and potential members and supporting renewal efforts. These volunteers are a source of support for volunteers in need.

Welcome new volunteers to the service unit
Support recruitment efforts and create strong school relationships
Host year-end celebration or recognition event for adult volunteers
Manage volunteer awards and recognition

These volunteers ensure troop leaders and product managers complete Cookie Product Program training and provide support throughout the program. They oversee troop orders, manage product deliveries, and coordinate the distribution of rewards.

Attend Service Unit Product Manager training prior to cookie season beginning
Ensure that all leaders are trained and supported for current Product Program
Become proficient in eBudde, the online cookie management system
Manage product delivery for Service Unit and troops
Receive, sort and distribute reward orders to Troop Product Managers

Service Unit Product Manager Fall Product Program

Volunteers in this role ensure troop leaders and product managers complete Fall Product Program training and provide support throughout the program. They oversee troop orders, manage product deliveries, and coordinate the distribution of rewards.

Attend Service Unit Product Manager training prior to the start of the Fall Product sale
Ensure that all leaders are trained and supported for current Product Sale
Become proficient in UNIFY, the online fall product management system
Manage product delivery for Service Unit and troops
Receive, sort and distribute reward orders to Troop Product Managers

Mission Possible Robotic Event Kit

This is a “plug-and-play” event kit to assist GSEIWI Service Units in hosting a badge-earning robotics event for Daisies, Brownies, and Juniors (DBJ). The goal of this event is for participants to earn the 3 Robotics badges for their age level.
