We are very excited to offer troop leaders and volunteers the opportunity to learn more about youth mental health and how to support Girl Scouts thorugh Youth Mental Health First Aid training.
Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) is skills-based training that teaches adults how to identify, understand, and respond to signs and symptoms of a mental health or substance use challenge in adolescents and teens.
Similar to physical First Aid and CPR, YMHFA helps you assist someone experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis until professional assistance is obtained or the crisis is resolved.
Mental Health First Aiders learn a 5-step Action Plan to recognize warning signs of a mental health or substance use challenge, provide help in crisis and non-crisis situations, and understand where to turn for additional assistance.
Girls, especially as they get older, can face challenges that can affect their mental health. Youth Mental Health training will give leaders working closely with Girl Scouts the tools they need to support Girl Scouts and get them the help they need.
Youth Mental Health First Aid trainings are offered in an online format and we are offering opportunities to take the training throughout the year. Visit our events calendar for a full list of training dates.
