Dubuque Racing Association (DRA) has donated $20,000 to transform a popular cabin, Shagbark, at Girl Scout Camp Little Cloud, located in Epworth, Iowa. Shagbark is a multi-purpose building with an office, overnight accommodations, and a large living space with a kitchen for events. Thanks to DRA's generous support, renovations will begin at the cabin so Girl Scouts and the community can utilize the space.
"At the DRA, we believe in building a stronger, more resilient community by supporting programs that invest in the growth and development of our youth. Girl Scouts at Camp Little Cloud exemplifies this mission by empowering girls with the skills, confidence, and leadership abilities they need to thrive in the world,” says Mandy Miller, Manager of Strategic Philanthropy at DRA. “The renovation of the Shagbark Building aligns with the goal of enhancing community spaces and creating opportunities for both local families and visitors to experience the beauty of the outdoors while fostering personal growth. We are proud to partner with Girl Scouts in shaping the leaders of tomorrow and making a lasting impact in our region."
DRA has funded multiple renovations of cabins at Camp Little Cloud, ensuring girls have a safe and supportive environment to return to after exploring the outdoors. Because of these planned improvements, more girls can enjoy programming at Camp Little Cloud.
Outdoor programming is essential for youth development. Whether a girl is canoeing, sleeping under the stars, leading the way on a hike, or roasting s'mores around a fire, she's developing vital skills that will serve her for a lifetime. Having accessible, updated cabins is essential because it gives our campers a safe and comfortable experience as they hone their skills.
The DRA, through its gaming and entertainment facilities provides for social, economic and community betterment and lessens the burden of Dubuque city and area government, while contributing to the growth and viability of Dubuque area tourism. The organization has been a vital part of the community since its inception in 1985 and is operated by a volunteer board comprised of 21 directors who work together to guide operations of Q Casino + Resort. The DRA holds the license for casino-gaming operations of Q Casino + Resort and is also the co-licensee for the Diamond Jo Casino, both of which are located in Dubuque.
