Clarissa McNally from Muscatine, Iowa, was recognized by the Department of Iowa, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States of America (VFW) as Girl Scout of the Year on Friday, June 27, 2025, in Des Moines, Iowa. The Iowa VFW Scout of the Year program provides members of the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts to be recognized for their standout citizenship, patriotism and love of country.
McNally is a Gold Award Girl Scout and recent graduate of Muscatine High School. She achieved the highest award a Girl Scout can earn, for her work to educate Iowa citizens on the laws related to funeral processions and their importance for all involved. To achieve the Gold Award, McNally researched traffic laws and funeral processions, collaborated with funeral homes, and then educated the public about how to safely and respectfully follow traffic laws related to processions.
The Gold Award is the highest achievement a Girl Scout can earn, available to girls in high school who create sustainable change on a community or world issue. Gold Award Girl Scouts address the root cause of a problem, plan and implement innovative solutions to drive change, and lead a team of people to success. As they take action to transform their world, Gold Award Girl Scouts gain tangible skills and prove they are the leaders our community and the world need.
