Girl Scouts welcomed a $15,000 gift from the R.J. McElroy Trust to support staff-led outreach programming for girls in Waterloo, Iowa.
"The Girl Scout Outreach Program helps break down barriers so all girls can build their confidence and learn new skills as Girl Scouts," says Diane Nelson, CEO of Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois. "We believe that Girl Scouts should be available to girls, no matter what barriers they may face. R.J. McElroy Trust’s support helps us get closer to that goal.”
The Girl Scout staff-led outreach program is offered to girls in schools or partner sites where there are many obstacles to becoming a Girl Scout. It is designed to remove barriers preventing a girl from joining, such as securing volunteers, paying the $25 membership fee, and transportation. Girl Scouts provides paid staff to deliver the program right in the school or partner site during or after the school day.
