Girl Scouts welcomed a gift of $30,000 from the Max and Helen Guernsey Charitable Foundation to support programming for local girls.
“The Guernsey Charitable Foundation is such an essential partner to Girl Scouts! We are so grateful for their support,” says Diane Nelson, CEO of Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois, “Their consistent support helps Girl Scouts provide more and more educational and exciting experiences for local girls.”
With funding from Max and Helen Guernsey Charitable Foundation, The Girl Scout Leadership program benefited at least 7,600 local girls in grades K-12. Girl Scouts aims to eliminate common barriers to extracurricular activities by bringing the program directly to the girls, so they can focus on building courage, confidence, and character. The programming involved learning about respectful communication, developing healthy habits, and science experiments.
The Girl Scout staff-led program is offered to girls in schools or partner sites where there are many obstacles to becoming a Girl Scout. It is a program designed to remove barriers preventing a girl from joining, such as securing volunteers, paying the $25 membership fee, transportation, etc. Girl Scouts provides paid staff to deliver the program right in the school or partner site during or after the school day.
