Discover the Solar Sisters Astronomy Club!
Solar Sisters is an out-of-this-world club with a goal of promoting lifelong learning of space science, while creating opportunities for Girl Scouts in our council to learn about astronomy.
Girl Scouts in grades 6-12 can become a member of the Solar Sisters Astronomy club for $45. This one-time membership fee includes attendance to all meetings, leadership opportunities to help at badge events, a patch, and T-Shirt.
Solar Sisters members will…
- Learn how to operate the club telescope
- Study the constellations and other objects in the sky
- Become familiar with exhibits at the Eastern Iowa Observatory and Learning Center and learn how light can teach us about stars
- Go on field trips to astronomy related places and events
Club meetings take place the second Sunday of the month from 4:00-5:30 p.m. at the Izaak Walton Leage in Cedar Rapids. Club members will also attend the public meetings of the Eastern Iowa Observatory and Learning Center in Ely, Iowa with the Cedar Amateur Astronomers.
The Solar Sisters also offer Daisy, Brownie, and Junior Space Badges at the observatory each fall and will host an overnight experience at the observatory for Cadette, Senior, and Ambassadors each spring.
