Girl Scouts welcomed a $50,000 gift from the Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust to support staff-led outreach programs for local girls.
“The generous financial support from the Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust has, and will continue to, help Girl Scouts provide leadership programs to girls,” says Diane Nelson, CEO of Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois. “The Girl Scouts who participate in staff-led troops typically face barriers to participating in extracurricular activities. This funding will create more equitable opportunities for girls in the region.”
With funding from the Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust, Girl Scouts introduced several leadership programs that would benefit girls in Muscatine, Iowa. The six-week program gave more than 200 girls the opportunity to discover new talents and passions, connect with positive adult mentors, and learn life skills that will guide them through life’s challenges. The programming involved learning about respectful communication, developing healthy habits, and science experiments.
The Girl Scout staff-led outreach program is offered to girls in schools or partner sites to remove barriers preventing a girl from joining, such as securing volunteers, paying the $25 membership fee, transportation, etc. Girl Scouts provides paid staff to deliver the program right in the school or partner site during or after the school day.
